An Implantable Foot Drop Stimulator
نویسنده
چکیده
A novel partially implantable system for correction of foot drop has been developed and is being tested in three volunteer subjects. The system consists of a two-channel implantable stimulator, a multi-polar nerve cuff electrode implanted on the peroneal nerve proximal to the knee, and an external system including battery, control and telemetry unit and a heel switch. Although the work is still in progress and the first patient has used the system for only six months, the results are very promising.

Three dimensional inertial sensing of foot movements for automatic tuning of a two-channel implantable drop-foot stimulator.
A three dimensional inertial sensing system for measuring foot movements during gait is proposed and tested. It can form the basis for an automated tuning system for a two-channel implantable drop-foot stimulator. The foot orientation and position during the swing phase of gait can be reconstructed on the basis of three-dimensional measurement of acceleration and angular velocity, using initial...

OBJECTIVE To determine the effect of a new implantable 2-channel peroneal nerve stimulator on walking speed and daily activities, in comparison with the usual treatment in chronic stroke survivors with a drop foot. DESIGN Randomized controlled trial. SETTING All subjects were measured 5 times in the gait laboratory. PARTICIPANTS Twenty-nine stroke survivors with chronic hemiplegia with dr...
متن کاملEffects of an implantable two-channel peroneal nerve stimulator versus conventional walking device on spatiotemporal parameters and kinematics of hemiparetic gait.
OBJECTIVE The aims of this study were: (i) to compare the neuro-prosthetic effect of implantable peroneal nerve stimulation to the orthotic effect of a standard of care intervention (no device, shoe or ankle foot orthosis) on walking, as assessed by spatiotemporal parameters; and (ii) to examine whether there is evidence of an enhanced lower-limb flexion reflex with peroneal nerve stimulation a...
متن کاملBrain plasticity after implanted peroneal nerve electrical stimulation to improve gait in chronic stroke patients: Two case reports.
BACKGROUND Recent studies have shown that stimulation of the peroneal nerve using an implantable 4-channel peroneal nerve stimulator could improve gait in stroke patients. OBJECTIVES To assess structural cortical and regional cerebral metabolism changes associated with an implanted peroneal nerve electrical stimulator to correct foot drop related to a central nervous system lesion. METHODS ...
متن کاملPhase II trial to evaluate the ActiGait implanted drop-foot stimulator in established hemiplegia.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate a selective implantable drop foot stimulator (ActiGait) in terms of effect on walking and safety. DESIGN A phase II trial in which a consecutive sample of participants acted as their own controls. SUBJECTS People who had suffered a stroke at least 6 months prior to recruitment and had a drop-foot that affected walking were recruited from 3 rehabilitation centres in Den...
